Resistance Nest 'Vazon Martello Tower' (Wn. Rundturm) was part of the German defences of Vazon Bay and is located between La Grande Mare and the main slipway by Vistas Cafe.
This small defensive position consisted of one 'fortress' 4.7cm anti-tank gun in a casemate, one 'fortress' personnel shelter, one 'reinforced field order' personnel shelter, one tobruk pit for a machine gun in a tank turret, a water bunker, an observation platform and 3 flame-throwers.
Various rifles, machine guns and a pistol were also supplied to the 11 men ( including 1 NCO and 3 Georgian soldiers from the 2nd Battalion) manning this position along with a handheld searchlight, Very pistol and rifle grenade launcher.
A 'Wiederstandsnest' (Wn) or 'Resistance Nest' was a small defensive position that 'plugged the gaps' between larger positions such as 'Stutzpunkts' or 'Strongpoints', or to defend a small strategic area inland.
The British built 15 Guernsey loophole towers at various points along the coast of Guernsey between August 1778 and March 1779 to deter possible French attacks after France had declared itself an ally of the Americans in the American Revolutionary War.
Towards the start of the Napoleonic Wars several towers received additional reinforcement in the form of batteries at their bases. Today, 12 towers still survive, three having been destroyed at different times.

This small defensive position consisted of two fortress 4.7cm anti-tank guns in casemates, three personnel shelters (one was probably used/shared by the small Wn Krossen garrision), two light machine guns - one located in the sea wall and one in a tobruk pit, and half a dozen flame-throwers.

Fort Hommet is a coastal fortification on the Vazon Bay headland, built on the site of earlier defences dating back to 1680. Its core includes a Martello tower constructed in 1804, with later Victorian-era additions, and the fort was expanded again during the German occupation in World War II with bunkers and casemates. Part of the site has since been restored, including a gun casemate that is open to visitors, making Fort Hommet one of Guernsey’s most distinctive layers of military history in one place.

Wherever possible, we use locally sourced produce to support our island's suppliers and reduce our environmental footprint- from our ingredients to our eco-friendly packaging.
The friendly hut sells a range of refreshments including ice creams, hot food and fresh Guernsey Gache. There are outdoor benches where you can enjoy your food and drink, or you can opt to sit on the sandy beach just metres away.
Grandes Rocques Battery is a Second World War coastal defence site positioned above Grandes Rocques beach, forming part of the German fortifications built during the occupation of Guernsey. Today, visitors can walk around the remains of gun emplacements, bunkers, and observation positions while taking in wide views across the bay and out to sea.
